A test conducted on an OFITE Lubricity Tester was
conducted with plain waterand compared with 3% Drillfast
Clear. The test was conducted at 60 RPM at various

Field trials with Drillfast indicate similar results
in traditional water base fluids. Some years back tests
were conducted by Mondshine and printed in the Oil & Gas
Journal. It is interesting to note that while diesel and
sulfonated asphalt works well in water and Mud A, the
combination does not work well in a conventional mud. A
fatty acid works fairly well. The only lubricant that
works well in all three systems is one formulated with a
blend of modified triglycerides and alcohols. Drillfast
is a modified fatty acid triglyceride ester and conforms
to previous tests. A copy of the test results found on
page 401 of “Composition and Properties of Drilling and
Completion Fluids” is reproduced below. Further testing
can be conducted upon request and compared with other
products if desired.

-Concentrations in lbs/bbl except diesel, which is given
in bbl/bbl.-
Mud A-15 g bentonite in 350 ml water; Mud B-15 g
bentonite, 60 g Glen Rose shale, 3 g, CLS, 0.5 g caustic
soda in 350 ml water. It is assumed the values are based
on the torque reading at 150 lbs of torque. Water is
normally in the range of 32 at 150 lbs of torque.
Drillfast Clear had a torque value of 6.4 at 150 lbs of
torque and would not stall even at 600 lbs of torque.
Drillfast has another advantage. It can be formulated as
an oil in water emulsion and therefore will not sheen
and very easy to clean up. Normally, water only is
needed to clean glassware. Drillfast Emulsion now
includes an industry-approved preservative and should
have a good shelf life.

ADDITIVE BENEFITS
Drillfast® is a fatty acid triglyceride oil in water
emulsion. There does not appear to be any free oil in
the fluid and clean up is far easier than fluids that
contain oil for lubricity improvement.
Drillfast® was designed to attract to metal surfaces and
reduce the sticking coefficient of clay particles. It is
an ideal additive for any water base fluid, but is
especially effective in fluids where calcium is used for
additional inhibition such as lime, gyp or saltwater
fluids.
Application and recommended treatment varies, but
ideally add fresh bentonite to the system before adding
Drillfast®. Add slowly to the suction pit with 1 to 1.5
drums for each 100 barrels of mud to give time for the
wall cake to recondition. Continue water additions. Some
increase in viscosity can be expected and reduce
treatment time and volume as necessary.
Definite reduction in torque & drag should be observed
along with penetration rate increase when 1 to 4% is
added and the system is stabilized.
PACKAGING & HANDLING
Drillfast® is packaged in 55-gallon poly drums or bulk
containers that are appropriately labeled. A
drum-opening tool is supplied with each order. Wash
empty drums out with water and empty into the mud
system. Use .02 to .04 % retort oil content to calculate
volume.
