The key to
environmental safety and oil base mud performance
ADDITIVE BENEFITS
Liqui-Thinz is a chrome-free thinner for all water base
drilling fluids, including lime, gyp, lo-pH polymer, sea water,
saturated salt and combinations thereof.
Liqui-Thinz has broad range capability and thermal
tolerance in excess of 300º F.
Liqui-Thinz has the ability to inhibit swelling,
sloughing, and disintegration of the clay particle because it protects
the particle by encapsulating it. The concept of encapsulation
is not normally found in other thinners, and it
represents a positive aid to inhibitive systems.
OUR COMPETITION
Liqui-Thinz demonstrates
equal performance with chrome lignosulfonate in calcium systems and
superior inhibitive characteristics.
Liqui-Thinz was designed to be cost-effectively superior
to most, if not all other chrome-free lignosulfonate products currently
available.
Liqui-Thinz also competes with polyacrylates and modified
quebracho products with superior performance and a lower price.
Liqui-Thinz thins by satisfying the electron imbalance on
flocculated clay particles and causing them to dissipate rather than
disburse into smaller particles. Thinners that do not encapsulate, and
cause dispersion, actually increase the viscosity and require more
water during the life of the sytem. Water can be a very expensive
additive in a weighted system because dilution creates the need for
replacement of the other needed items and the excess fluid has to be
disposed.
TESTING RESULTS
Liqui-Thinz has been used in numerous tests evaluating its performance
in salt contaminated mud, gyp mud, and gyp/salt contaminated mud. The
above example is a typical result demonstrating superior performance.
FIELD PERFORMANCE
Liqui-Thinz has been used in
several field trials with very positive results. There are some areas
where oil base systems do not perform well. Young river shale is a good
example. Liqui-Thinz, coupled with Setac's recommended Envirocal system, was
utilized in such an area, and where previous wells with oil base mud
had failed. Four wells were completed at a lower cost with no hole
problems. The fifth well was drilled past the recommended casing point
and experienced a 1.5-pound salt-water kick. That well was not
completed, but the mud system and viscosity retained its integrity even
though the chlorides increased dramatically.
In another area, also known for
hole problems, Liqui-Thinz was the primary thinner in a modified gyp
mud. The well was completed with no hole problems nine days ahead of
schedule!
Liqui-Thinz can be used in a
variety of systems and will improve performance. That's been proven in
the lab and in the field.
