Is a unique thinning agent that allows a water base mud to be used at elevated temperatures without chrome. Liqui-Thinz performs in Lime, Gyp, Salt and Polymer muds.

Different quantities of Liqui-Thinz were added to
samples with equal alkalinity. After aging the
alkalinity drops dramatically with one pound per
barrel. The alkalinity remains acceptable with 4
PPB and does not change much with increased
additions. This graph proves that at least 4 ppb of
Liqui-Thinz prevents loss of alkalinity. Where does
the alkalinity go? To the clay particle, which causes
dispersion, increased low gravity solids and
increased water additions. |

Differential pipe sticking can be virtually eliminated and water additions reduced dramatically.

Why? Liqui-Thinz stops cuttings from degrading into a particle size distribution that promotes ticking.

How? Clay particle encapsulation, that uses deflocculating rather than dispersion, provides particles with less surface area. The benefit is lower cost and better cement bonds when setting casing.

The key to the success of Liqui-Thinz in a lime mud is Balanced Alkalinity.
|
Notice how the calcium solubility decreases with additions of caustic to about 2 pounds per barrel. Further additions do not change the calcium solubility. This test was done with 4 PPB of lime. Balance occurs with two parts caustic and 4 parts lime. KOH requires 1.6 times more than caustic due to a different molecular weight. |

Balanced Alkalinity occurs when the soluble calcium will not decrease with further caustic additions.

This is easily determined by ensuring the pF alkalinity is nearly equal to the excess lime.
